Welcome to the House of Fun

Cardiff, Wales

There is great excitement in the household tonight as the number of inhabitants is set to rise by one tomorrow when a supposed 'she', who is in fact a 'he', is due to arrive from France.

We have had other housemates before. First there was John, who had been living and working abroad but returned to look after his mother who was not well. He stayed until he found teaching work and could afford a place of his own (a couple of months). The house was a happy one whilst he was here and more than a few glasses of wine were consumed, and discussions on life, love, the world and everything, had.

Then came Elizabeth, who was a Patagonian Welsh student. This was news to me, however everyone else in Wales (at least the Welsh-speaking half of Wales) seemed to be well aware that Patagonia does indeed have a large Welsh-speaking community. Many Patagonian language and teaching students travel to Wales each year on exchanges to improve their skills. This does lead to some confusion though, as Elizabeth's first language was Spanish. Her English was quite limited, whereas Heulwen's languages are English and Welsh (as are Owain's) and mine is simply English. Apparently, Welsh with a Spanish accent is quite different and sometimes difficult to follow. As is Welsh with a Welsh accent to someone with a Spanish Welsh accent...apparently...and all of it was confusing to me.

Elizabeth left about a month ago now and life here has settled into an easy, no-fights-for-the-shower, routine. It will be good to have a new housemate, although perhaps a little strange at first... especially for him, being surrounded by us.

The gender confusion came as Heulwen assumed Eric was an abbreviation of Erica, as she believed (and I can see why) that a young bloke wouldn't really want to move into a house with a woman, her son, and a student. But, on receipt of a photograph via e-mail, 'she' is most decidedly a 27-year-old 'he'.

And He is arriving around 2pm tomorrow.

Comes in Threes, Right?

So, I quit smoking, I barely drink anymore, I’ve returned to being vegy, I order fresh organic fruit and veg every week, I go swimming/aqua aerobics twice a week... and I’ve never been so ill in all my life.

Since Christmas I’ve had tonsillitis (the worst the doctor said she'd seen outside of textbooks!), a chest infection (that left me under the covers for my birthday) and now a stomach bug for which I’ve eaten no solids in two days.

Go figure.

I'm thinking of going down the corner shop for 20 Camels and a bottle of vodka instead.

But that makes three. That's definitely, irrefutably, three. So I can now look forward to a lifetime of exceptional health and well-being :) I'm excited about that fact.

However, to help me pass the boredom (rather than just my breakfast), I’ve just watched the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. I know some hate it, I was fully prepared to hate it myself... but, aaaawww, geee, shucks. You can't hate that, can you? It's such a happy ending.

I'm now tucking into a blast-from-the-past X-Files-a-thon (thanks Dad for the next two seasons!). We're now beyond 'blast from the past' and into 'the parts I never saw'. So it's an education and there's enough here to last me until I get better, get married, have children and finish putting them through college... if only I could eat popcorn and drink beer at the same time.

Oh, and 'get well soon' Mum, who is sharing in my pain with lurgy of her own. x

My Toothy Pegs and Me :oD

Last Monday I went to visit the dentist. I was bricking it because I hadn't been to a dentist in five years! I thought it was about time I had a check-up, but I was a little worried about what said dentist might have to say...

...said young, charming and handsome dentist returned the verdict of 'immaculate' :oD

I was very relieved.

There shall be much chomping now and into the future.

Well, Here it is Then

And...hello.

Never had any inclination to blog before, but I realised that I leave it waaay too long between updating my family members on my whereabouts and whatfors. Plus I'm planning to go walkabouts later this year and this seems like a really sensible idea so that people can find out where I am and catch up on the highlights of what's been happening.

Hello Mam, hello Dad.... :)
