Deaf Beaten 'Near to Death' in Burundi

I have just had a very disturbing e-mail from a friend who works for the Burundian National Association of the Deaf.

People need to know about this, it's disgusting.

To summarise:

A group of Deaf people were leaving a BNAD event when the police mistook them for a gang of thieves. They whistled for them to stop but, being Deaf, they didn't. So the police beat them 'near to death'. They didn't even stop when shown the ID cards stating they were Deaf.

The full e-mail:

Here in Burundi we are a bit fine, but we stop all activities since the middle of february.

Now we focus on human right matters.because deaf had arrested hitten near to death and we have five case.now we are asking the local administretion to make a special card for them.

it was saturday,we were coming from a feast at the association. at everning when when every body were in the way back home, a group of deaf meet the policemen who claimed to run after the bandits.because they were in group , these one called them by whistling and deaf couldn't understand the meaning of that because of their handicap. then the policemen concluded that they must be the thieves.

when they arrive on them the deaf show their identity where it mention "deaf" but the policemen didn't want to understand, they said that they were laid about it.

now they begun to hit them, other deaf come to interven and this one is arrsted too. they show them our pfone number so to call us but in vain.

we came to get the news three days after when some of them had the arms and leg totally split up.

now they are not at the hospital tthey try to recover so to keep on life.
